I find my greatest joy in life in music and sharing it with others. I am a composer and performing pianist who has discovered music as my most comfortable language for communicating with the world. I have benefitted from studying with some of the world's foremost composers at Juilliard, Bard and the Manhattan School of Music, and am enthusiastic about imparting all that I have learned from them. I try to balance out the importance of theory and understanding music notation with having fun and working on songs or techniques that the students particularly desires to play. What that means is I prefer to help students by means of demonstrating skills( Left/ right-hand technique, excerpts from music, etc.), to scaffold their learning, and to help them overcome challenges by means of critical thinking and problem-solving. For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student.
