Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

When I work with a student, I like to think of myself a motivational coach. I like to share the excitement of every new discovery and accomplishment! When working with younger students, I make sure that the lesson is interactive and fun, while giving clear instructions. Having a sense of humor is also a great motivator, as well as keeping in mind the childs age and attention span. When working with older students and adults, I like to suggest practice materials that are interactive as well. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the Ed Sueta beginning trombone book (this is the book I learned from when I first started). Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. As a jazz musician, I can also instruct students on jazz improvisation, harmony, theory, composition, ear training, etc. No matter what the student is interested in, I will guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. It is important to adopt a teaching style that is tailored to the individual needs of each student, especially because each student learns at their own pace. Setting goals is one of the first topics I discuss with my students, and then indicate some of the steps they need to take to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Keeping track of a student's hours of practice and their musical achievements is beneficial for me to determine what new material and concepts to work on, and also allows the student to stay organized and motivated. Instruments: Voice
Something I feel strongly about in my teaching is a introduction to classical music and style of singing. This is in many ways the most uninhibited, free positioning for vocal production and once a student feels comfort in that, they can move forward and explore different genres without any impediments or things holding them back. They have a root position to return to if they feel lost or have not completely grasped a vocal styling. Read More

I believe that students thrive in learning environments that are individualized, so I tend to use a combination of custom lesson plans and materials. My curriculum includes performance studies books, ear training, sight-reading exercises, proper technique, improvisation skills, and songbooks from a variety of genres, all of which Ive found to be incredibly helpful in my personal music education. Instruments: Cello
For all of my students I try to encourage good basic technique and practicing scales and etudes. I believe in a healthy mix of technique and artistic expression. I also try to help students use their bodies in the most efficient way possible. I help students to create good habits and work to fix bad habits. Read More
