This gets the student familiar with the feel of the instrument and helps to reinforce how the left and right hands work together when performing. Another benefit is that it helps the student to build speed/dexterity when playing. I will typically introduce my beginner students with some scales and etudes from Simandl's 30 etudes book. They start out rather simple, but throughout the book many concepts are introduced that are important for understanding how the bass works. As well Simandl Book one is a wonderful book to introduce the positions on the bass and has many helpful exercises inside. I am always willing to help a student find or refine a solo piece if they are interested too keep them excited about playing the bass. Read More

I work with the student and their needs. I don't want to jump too far ahead or go to slow , so I work with the student and figure out their speed to determine where we go each and every lesson. I believe in being honest with how you are feeling in that moment and encourage my students to utile those emotions for singing. I work with the student to make realistic goals but will push the students further and harder unless they tell me to bring it down. Read More
