I provide individualized instruction with a theoretical focus. I want students to understand the music that they play. I view music as a language and believe in the importance of being able to manipulate it to convey a message to the listener. I allow students to choose the songs they learn and couple them with technical exercises to improve dexterity and familiarity with the instrument. I believe in a "do no harm" philosophy, where my primary goal is to have students enjoy music on their instrument without being overly burdened with "homework" and "practice." Read More

At present my practice of teaching music involves inspiring other singers to want to sing along during Zoom meetings, or giving them the tools to make a good audio recording for a virtual choir. Recently I made slideshows of the music score synchronized with the audio track for their voice part. I took responsibility for my own learning, and shared my tools with others. For my beginning students who are children, I like to start with Alfred's Music books based on the instrument they choose. They are specific, yet easy for kids to follow along with, and encourage practicing by making each song fun.
