I'm a professional educator with a passion for music. I hold a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from DePaul University, and have studied guitar, mandolin and music theory at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. I started drumming on my dad's snare drum when I was about 5. I think my folks realized I was serious, so they bought a little Woolworth's "kiddie" kit and set up drum lessons when I was about 7 and learned to read and write jazz and rock music with my instructor until I was 16. For beginning adults and teenagers, I like to use Faber Adult Piano Adventures to teach the fundamentals. I complement these studies with other pieces according to each student's taste and technical needs. For very young children, I like to use Music for Little Mozarts and for older children, I use Faber Piano Adventures. I also compose for each student based on skills I believe they could benefit from practicing. I teach every student music theory, using Alfred Essentials Music Theory workbooks. Read More

For piano, I like to begin with fundamentals such as five finger exercises and musical literacy teachings to ensure growth of musical understanding as well as proper technique. I have had great success using the Faber and Faber book series, as this gets students in the music quickly. From there, there is so much solo repertoire to explore! I have been teaching music for right around 10 years now. After having my own children, I started sharing Kindermusik with babies, toddlers and parents. I then moved into teaching preschool students music enrichment classes. When I found out that our local School of Rock was hiring, and being a professional musician myself, I felt that was an amazing fit.
