Having patience is key to being a good teacher. I realize many students will learn at different paces so it's important to work with kids on an individual level to make sure they're learning most effectively. Positive reinforcement through encouragement and setting attainable goals is another way of ensuring my students are making progress. I want to relate to students on a personal level as well and to link what their passionate about with the music that I teach them. Read More

I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students in helping develop their love and appreciation for music. As a musician, I was initially self-taught and after a few years of self-instruction, I began taking lessons from a few different teachers. I recently completed my BS in Commercial Music. My favorite genres of music include jazz, classical, rock, and funk. For the past few years I have been performing regularly throughout the southeast in a rock band that focuses heavily on improvisation. Read More

By High School, I had already formed three bands, and composed & recorded a solo album on my own. In 2013, I started my music degree at the University of Colorado Denver, and graduated in 2018. I’ve learned many different instruments since I got involved in music, but guitar is my main instrument. However, what I find most gratifying about music is the combination of multiple instruments together, forming an arrangement. Although my goal is to let you lead the way as far as what you’d like to know, I believe that understanding how your instrument can be placed into the larger picture is a key aspect to learning music, and very enjoyable. My main philosophy is that every student is different and should be treated accordingly. The methods I use are specifically tailored to each student and can be methods that I have learned or developed myself. I start students off by asking them collect ideas about their instrument and the music they enjoy. From that point, I begin to simultaneously teach technique and musicianship in relation to their expressed interests. The key to my teaching method is that I ask difficult questions and then I give the student time to think and develop an answer. Read More

I have a little card taped toa bookcase in my living room that says: "Give 'em something they can DO." This means the students needs to be able to put things into action, into motion. Everything will make more sense for you when you physicallyDO it. Then my card says, "Give 'em something theyCAN do." This is an important distinction! When the activities are do-able, from the very beginning, students experience success andtheir confidence begins to grow. Read More
