I've been taking piano lessons ever since I can remember, becoming more and more serious as the years passed. As a professional, state-licensed music teacher for over fourteen years, I began teaching in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 2001 before moving to Colorado in 2007 and serving in Douglas County School District, Denver Public Schools, and Jefferson County Public Schools. Encouraging students to practice on a regular basis is the cornerstone of musical growth and development, and I help especially younger students find the balance between popular music and classical music as a means of motivating practice and developing their skills. For beginning adults and teenagers, I like to use Faber Adult Piano Adventures to teach the fundamentals. I complement these studies with other pieces according to each student's taste and technical needs. For very young children, I like to use Music for Little Mozarts and for older children, I use Faber Piano Adventures. I also compose for each student based on skills I believe they could benefit from practicing. I teach every student music theory, using Alfred Essentials Music Theory workbooks. Read More

I have fun with my students. They learn to play songs that they want to play, and I provide theoretical and technical instruction within that framework. I collaborate with my students to determine their needs and goals. When starting out with beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. I then transition to Suzuki repertoire. I also include music individual to each student based on their interests. My methods are flexible and designed to draw out the strengths of each student. I like to have open communication with my students, and I like to get feedback from my students about where they are at so I can meet them there. Read More
