As a professional, state-licensed music teacher for over fourteen years, I began teaching in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 2001 before moving to Colorado in 2007 and serving in Douglas County School District, Denver Public Schools, and Jefferson County Public Schools. Encouraging students to practice on a regular basis is the cornerstone of musical growth and development, and I help especially younger students find the balance between popular music and classical music as a means of motivating practice and developing their skills. For the most part I start with warm up exercises to get your fingers moving properly, then have a balance of going through instruction books and jamming and/or improvising in different styles, and slowly progress you and help with techniques to make you sound as clean as possible. I will help you be able to play whatever genre, or songs you like. As well as how to tap into creative flow and be able to improvise and write original music. Read More

My focus is for my students to not only understand music, but enjoy it to the fullest extent. For this reason, there is no set structure for all students, but each lesson varies based on the student's needs and wishes. It is incredibly rewarding to watch my students grow in their passion and love for music as well as grow in their confidence. During the first few lessons, we focus on setting goals and building a roadmap that will enable to the student to reach these milestones as well as allow them to dictate where the lessons go and what individual goals they have set for themselves. I provide individualized instruction with a theoretical focus. I want students to understand the music that they play. I view music as a language and believe in the importance of being able to manipulate it to convey a message to the listener. I allow students to choose the songs they learn and couple them with technical exercises to improve dexterity and familiarity with the instrument. I believe in a "do no harm" philosophy, where my primary goal is to have students enjoy music on their instrument without being overly burdened with "homework" and "practice." Read More

I have been teaching in and out of the classroom for the last five years. I am currently employed as a Substitute Teacher with Brevard Public Schools. As a music education student, I have regularly taught lessons, coached small ensembles, and led full-class rehearsals for years. I have also been hired to work as a marching band staff member for Sebastian River High School, Eau Gallie High School, and Vero Beach High School. Read More

I was offered my first piano teaching job 15 years ago, and have continued to teach ever since. I've taught children as young as 4 years old and first-time adults as old as 60. The most rewarding experiences I've had as a teacher include watching shy, young students consistently evolve into mature young adults who leap at the chance to perform in recitals or take on new challenges in their musical careers. I always encourage a sound sense of self-discipline when I teach lessons. Read More

I use many different methods since I am of the opinion that all methods have their strengths and their weaknesses. For children I typically use the Suzuki method and suplement with exercises and outside repertoire to compensate for the weaknesses in the Suzuki method. I also use the Royal Conservatory method and try to teach its repertoire when the student is at an advance- beginner or intermediate level. Read More
