For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Read More

My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. I started teaching occasional private lessons while attending college. Though this started with teaching my friends, it branched out to some strangers as well. After graduating, I started teaching at a lesson studio, maintaining a steady roster of 20-25 students every week. Teaching has definitely helped me develop my own knowledge of my instrument as well! I have found that in addition to simply teaching concepts, talking about my past experiences learning my instrument helps students connect with the material at a deeper level because they can trace a path from where they are to where I am, ability-wise. I was offered my first piano teaching job 5 years ago, and have continued to teach ever since. I've taught children as young as 4 years old and first-time adults as old as 60. The most rewarding experiences I've had as a teacher include watching shy, young students consistently evolve into mature young adults who leap at the chance to perform in recitals or take on new challenges in their musical careers. I always encourage a sound sense of self-discipline when I teach lessons. Read More

Since the age of 11, Anna Kate has held a tremendous passion for classical flute. It was her junior year of high school when she decided to pursue a career in music and started her journey by joining the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, which toured in France, performing at large concerts in various cities. Subsequently she was accepted to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts High School to further advance her studies in flute, requiring extensive time commitments of practicing five plus hours per day. I use many different methods since I am of the opinion that all methods have their strengths and their weaknesses. For children I typically use the Suzuki method and suplement with exercises and outside repertoire to compensate for the weaknesses in the Suzuki method. I also use the Royal Conservatory method and try to teach its repertoire when the student is at an advance- beginner or intermediate level. Read More
