Tiernan's concept of using the ear more than the score works beautifully with "Hearing the changes" book and her technique for relaxation and breathing is a gift from Madame Chaloff from Boston ,through Madame Vengerova all the way to Leschetizky, arguably the greatest piano teacher of all time. However, I highly encourage bringing in classical pieces and students picking pieces of their own and bringing them to me to go over and learn. I’ve found that this keeps the students highly motivated and passionate about their lessons and practice. For beginners, the books are highly recommended, but for more advanced students who have finished the books, we begin classical technique exercises meant to help with the increasing level of difficulty of their songs.
