For beginner students, I try to get them to learn a song by the first lesson.  Eventually, I start them off by focusing on technique (learning notes and scales), tone development, etudes, and repertoire.  Efficiency of effort in the fingers, usage of air, and holding of the body in order to produce a beautiful sound is a top priority.  I believe the connection between the mind and body is very important, and you will find me often asking questions to engage the students in being aware of what they are doing as they are playing. Every lesson is wrapped up with a homework assignment that is something the student wants to learn, something that is within the student’s current capabilities, and something that addresses a specific technique or learning point covered from their lesson. I began teaching piano part-time in high school and slowly realized it was something that I was truly passionate about. Over the past 10 years, I have been teaching piano to students of all ages and skill levels, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience.
