I first started teaching guitar in high school after i got a few lessons from someone i looked up to in high school. From then on i have loved to teach music to all ages!. My longest student started at 12 and by time he was 17 years old i told him he would be having to teach me a few things soon. we became friends and were in a band together for a while until i moved south, i loved having that connection, and i hope to find plenty others like that. it makes me feel good knowing others are gaining from my teaching so i do my very best! I adapt to all learning styles and necessary modifications/accommodations they might have in a classroom. I encourage all students to explore and discover their own learning styles and I never use shame or comparison as a motivator. My lessons are always fun and upbeat, with lots of healthy celebration of progress! My students have a practice requirement to pass of any given song, depending on their piece and their level of playing. Read More

I have studied music since childhood and continued with two professional degrees in music. My first degree is in Vocal Performance my second is in Music Education. I have been a part of a collegiate piano studio throughout my undergraduate degree. I have been playing classical guitar since childhood, but didn't study it in a collegiate setting. I began studio teaching in college, around 2014. I have continued teaching privately. I have also taught in public and private schools. Read More

As professional musician, I've been taught trough classical theory training, but as jazz major I also know a lot about jazz theory which gave me both approaches to teaching in the most efficient and comfortable way that the student ask me to, ( not everybody learns in the same way for sure). I'm also excited about learning from my students because it is something that I do like and appreciate a lot. Read More

I want everyone to feel that they can learn music and that music can be fun to learn and grow in. So I strive to learn how a student learns and do my best to cater my teaching style and the materials I use to help them learn tothe way they learn. For example, if you are a repetitive learner than I will try to solidify the techniques by teaching those techniques over and over again until they areabsorbed. Read More

I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More

Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
They both correlate with each other. The piano and guitar have melody and chord function and it's relativity have made my decisions to make these as professional instruments.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Both my father and uncles played as professional musicians. To me it's genetic and always have applied the disciplines and open-mindedness along with creativity as they had.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
Being a golf professional both either touring or a teaching pro. My passion for that is great but Musuic always came first. I have coached golf while teaching High School Sports.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have a masters Degree in Music Education/ Performance. I have taught Music History, Theory, Creative Writing , Composition, various Ensembles. Extensive private and group teaching knowledge.

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Reading violin studies on the guitar. On Piano, Playing Brandenburg Concerto number 5, also Oscar Peterson's selections.

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I wrote my own Guitar book plus Mel Bay Revised, Sal Salvadore's String Studies. Sal Salvador's Chord Book, plus many options in music studios. Much of what I teach fits the needs of my students.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
I have two recording artists and 4 band directors that currently are active. Many of my students have excelled to be Music Teachers in some capacity. Both in performance, teaching, and arranging.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I always loved guitar and piano as my primary instruments because of my passion for listening to various artists and going to Concerts.

When will I start to see results?
Week to Week a student will see results in taking (baby steps) to accomplishment. an accelerated method and proper assessment will be monitored fully by me. Seeing results is a week to week experience.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had a great guitar and piano teacher John Rook and Danny Romo on Guitar. Later in College, Guitarists, Larry Coryell and Sal Salvador was inspirational. David Barnett and John Mohegan were also inspirational. As a Band Director, Orlando Vitello

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
The interest is from listening music and the desire the students have to explore and find an instrument that will be conducive to facilitate and have success. Usually a student on the instruments here could start at age 6 for me through Seniors at all levels. Just to recommend any child before the age of six should experiment with a mini xylophone which I can also teach.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Bringing my Marching Band to All City scoring number 1 in 10 bands leading the competition,. I also played in California and Felix Cavaliers band for a east coast tour. Also playing in a musical pit band for West Side Story.

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Always pick out a common time each day to practice. Learn with instructor to breakdown difficult passages and scales and gradually increase speed if necessary. In separate manuscript book, read and apply extra techniques written

...to in music theory, are the interval between one note and another seven half-steps above it. The visuals provided in this article are ones of some keys on a keyboard, but feel free to adapt this knowledge to your particular instrument. Now that we know a little bit about fifths we can move on to describing the rest of the circle. The top of the circle of fifths features a big “C.” This C and the rest of the letters symbolize key signatures. Moving clockwise from C, the next key we see is a G. The key of G is a Perfect Fifth away from C. The rest of... Read More

Ear Training for Musicians: A How To Guide

...governed by permanent relationships that never change. This means that if we can begin to recognize a few simple relationships found in music that this shapeless thing will, well, begin to take shape. That’s not all the good news. These simple relationships can be built by applying simple formulas to our instruments. Again, we’re going to show you these formulas with the visual aid of a keyboard, but feel free to apply them to your specific instrument.   Intervals If you want to learn about the permanent ideas that shape music, learning to recognize and play intervals is a great ... Guitar Exercises Every Guitarist Should Practice

...6th Interval Warm-up This a guitar exercise that helps develop more complex picking styles because it forces you to skip a string. The example here features an interval of a Major 6th, but feel free to add in a different one if you prefer. While playing to the steady click of a metronome, start picking the Major 6th interval on the 6th string 12th fret. Then without pausing, do the same thing on the 5th string’s 12th fret. Repeat these same steps on fret lower until you reach the bottom of the guitar. Implementing the alternative picking pattern will be more difficult ... Read More

...system of small striking-hammers to a harpsichord, an instrument that used a plucked-string system, he almost certainly had no idea how large of an impact his new instrument would have on the world. Foot pedals allow pianists to control the dynamics of what they’re playing, and this is what makes the piano a unique instrument. No other instrument since has been able to combine the range and dynamic power like the piano does.   The piano’s role in modern songwriting is front and center in genres like rock, blues, and alternative, and many songwriters use the piano to write their songs whether the final ... Principals of Basic Drum Beats for Rock, Part 1

...rockabilly bass playing; the thumb-fingers pattern of folk guitar pickers, and many more examples.   In rock music (as well as most of the genres that fed into its creation) the ‘weak’ beats two and four tend to be specially emphasized: this is known as the ‘backbeat’. Typically, the backbeat is articulated by a strong snare hit. It follows naturally from these ideas then, that the lowest-pitched instrument of the drum set- the bass drum, of course- will generally center on or around beats one and three, and will almost always articulate beat 1.   So Now What?   The next thing we need to consider ...
