For the past 30 years, I have been teaching students of all ages in my home and in their homes. I have had funny twin boys, serious adults who don't really care much for theory and teenage girls. I even was lucky enough to have as a student a young lady who was crowned Miss Colorado. When I began teaching, students always came to my home. There was a time I was teaching 50 students and had to have two separate recitals-it was great! Read More

In a first lesson, I evaluate the student's skill level and discuss what kinds of music we would like to study. After this initial evaluation, I develop a personalized plan which addresses healthy vocal production and practice techniques which address the needs of the student. I tailor my instruction to each student's needs, accounting for various vocal needs, temperaments, and learning styles; therefore, I do not have a generic method. Read More

I believe in the power of music learning as a personally empowering experience of creativity, and also as a beneficial support for the human brain at any age. I don't believe in pushing students beyond their ambition--my expectations are contextualized to authentically meaningful aspirations of each student. For the rare student who has serious professional ambition, I will absolutely push them to achieve the highest level of performance ability. For a student prepping for an audition, I will guide them based on my experience as both a prospective student and as a professor who has run hundreds of auditions. Read More

My goal is to help my students discover their potential. I've heard a lot of people say that they wish they could play an instrument, and I believe that anyone is capable of learning. I hope to inspire students to practice outside of lessons, and play for friends and family as much as possible. I love when my students find music on their own that they want to play. I believe that part of my job as a teacher is help my students discover their passion for the guitar. Read More

To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. I often tell my students to just work on the first and second staff of the music so they don't overload themselves with work. Setting reasonable goals fuels the students desire to progress and gets them excited to continue learning more. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice
Vocal technique, including breath support, pitch, range, tone, and style are important for every singer. However, each student is not the same, and it is important to help a student find their natural voice and work from there. A huge part of becoming a better singer has to do with building confidence. Confidence comes from having little successes and getting in touch with one's own natural sound. Then wonderful new sounds and feelings can be built from there. Read More
