Instruments: Trumpet Ukulele
Many students beginning private lessons have already started playing the instrument, but still need to establish a firm foundation. When starting to take trumpet or brass instrument lessons each student will be starting at different levels along with progressing at a different pace. Lesson plans are customized to each student's skills and musical interests. My favorite part of playing music is playing with other people, because of this my lessons use a stong emphasis on duets. Instruments: Guitar Mandolin Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I have been teaching private lessons for about 7 years. I have been playing guitar for 20 years, and mandolin, dobro, and pedal steel for 10+. I am passionate about tailoring lessons to tackle exactly what the student wants to learn. I have found that many teachers have a set curriculum to teach students a certain level on competency on an instrument. While this is a valid approach I feel that each situation needs to adapt to the student, so I take pride tackling whatever skills the students wants to learn. Read More
Instruments: Voice
In a first lesson, I evaluate the student's skill level and discuss what kinds of music we would like to study. After this initial evaluation, I develop a personalized plan which addresses healthy vocal production and practice techniques which address the needs of the student. I tailor my instruction to each student's needs, accounting for various vocal needs, temperaments, and learning styles; therefore, I do not have a generic method. Read More

Depending on experience level I like to get people making music as soon as possible. I know that trudging through the basics can be tiring. Of course some basics are neccesary but I like to make the basics sound as musical as possible. We will cover the fundamentals but we'll do so in such a way that it won't feel like so much work. I like to use books, depending on skill level, for reference but I have a very hands on approach and feel that the best work to be done together is the stuff that can't be found in the book. My Name is Taylor Clay, and I am a passionate and driven performer and educator who loves working with students and inspiring them to reach their full potential. In 2012, I graduated from the Crane School of Music in New York with a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. During that time I studied classical, jazz and latin music. I have also had the opportunity to study and perform with world renound artists such as Eric Alexander, Wynton Marsalis, Lenny Pickett, Christopher Creviston and Donny McCaslin. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
For beginning students, I start with the fundamental book that they use at school in their band class. If the student is not in a class yet, I would recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I also have a collection of fundamentals and warm ups that I have saved from my middle school, high school, and college years that I will use with students depending on ability level. For students of all ages and ability levels, I have found it to be helpful to know what kind of music they are interested in and incorporate that into my lessons. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I'm passionate about seeing a beginning student just starting out evolve into a professional musician playing out with bands. I let students progress at their own pace and keep the lessons fun and interesting. I try to find out what inspires and drives the student to play, this allows me to successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I help students set realistic goals for the progression of their playing so they can avoid frustration. Read More
