For younger students, I'll usually use their band music or band methods to supplement class work, as well as offering my own exercises to strengthen fundamentals. I love teaching the trombone! I think more kids should check it out, and adults should continue playing throughout their lives even if it isn't a profession. I am a graduate from the Lamont School of Music in DU, and received my bachelor's at Cal State Northridge, both degrees in performance. I've played in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in DC. I am classically trained but also love to play jazz music. Read More

A young childs aural capabilities are greatest in the early years of life, and therefore a method which relies heavily on aural stimulation is most suitable. Three and four year old children do not yet have the mental capacities to read music from a page, but are able to learn to play very well by rote.
