Instruments: Accordion
My teaching style is where both myself and the student have the accordion on at the same time. I will demonstrate the bass of the instrument on the left hand at first and have the student play along with me, only on the left side. After the student can play a simple C bass major I switch to the right hand playing songs like merrily we roll along. Some beginners can play both hands at the end of one lesson. Read More
Instruments: Voice Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet Drums Recorder Euphonium French Horn Tuba Oboe Bassoon
When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More
Instruments: Drums Recorder Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion
For beginners I ask what are their favorite songs and go from there. If they do not know then I usually play a popular song. I hope to get the beginner attuned with playing along and the importance of timing. With my guidance the student builds their own beginner book through our lessons. I give all students activities to work on during the week that I expect for them to show me at the next lesson. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My teaching style is positive and encouraging. I want each of my students to progress at their own pace while I strive to challenge them in constructive ways to ensure rewarding progress. Everyone learns differently and I work to tailor every aspect of my lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. Building a comfortable and respectful relationship is very important to me. I want to make sure each student feels that I have their best interest in mind and to never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Ukulele
Many students beginning private lessons have already started playing the instrument, but still need to establish a firm foundation. When starting to take trumpet or brass instrument lessons each student will be starting at different levels along with progressing at a different pace. Lesson plans are customized to each student's skills and musical interests. My favorite part of playing music is playing with other people, because of this my lessons use a stong emphasis on duets. Instruments: Guitar Drums Bass Guitar Acoustic Guitar
For Bass and Guitar students I have written a progressive theory "test" which does 2 things - it tells me what the student knows and it serves as a guide in future lessons. Some theory instruction goes along with whatever playing instruction the student is working on. For Drum students I stick to the aspects of theory that pertain to the drums - meter signatures, note values etc. If a drummer wants to learn more then I can work with him on it. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle
I have experience with a wide-range of children and can accommodate a variety of cognitive and emotional needs. However, I do teach all ages. My youngest student was 4, and my oldest was 72. I have been teaching violin since 2017. Every student's musical journey is unique and I work with their individual strengths to help them achieve their goals. I use a classical foundation to advance a student's skills, and I use other styles of music to keep students motivated. Read More
