Competition Judge for the Scottish Fiddle Club of Colorado
Section Violin in the Southern Methodist University Conservatory Orchestra from 1987-1993
I am a passionate and dedicated teacher. I have a gentle approach that works to develop confidence and skill. I am a violinist with over 30 years of experience, and also a mental health counselor. I got started working with children during my graduate education at Regis University, where I specialized in Play Therapy. During that time, I fell in love with working with children. Musically, I specialize in Classical, Irish, Scottish, and Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle traditions. I have played with notable acts such as The Fray, and toured the U.S.
I have experience with a wide-range of children and can accommodate a variety of cognitive and emotional needs. However, I do teach all ages. My youngest student was 4, and my oldest was 72. I have been teaching violin since 2017. Every student's musical journey is unique and I work with their individual strengths to help them achieve their goals. I use a classical foundation to advance a student's skills, and I use other styles of music to keep students motivated. I will teach any genre based on a student's individual interests.
I collaborate with my students to determine their needs and goals. When starting out with beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. I then transition to Suzuki repertoire. I also include music individual to each student based on their interests. My methods are flexible and designed to draw out the strengths of each student. I like to have open communication with my students, and I like to get feedback from my students about where they are at so I can meet them there.
I love what I do and it makes me so happy to be able to share my passion with others. Since starting as a violin teacher, I’ve been privileged to see so many students discover their natural skills and abilities and reach results they never dreamed were possible. I tailor each lesson individually based on a student's interest and skill. The most important thing I can do in a lesson is provide the skills that build confidence. Improved confidence helps motivate a student to continue to excel, and this can be applied to all areas of their life.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
OkAre you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
