I challenge every student to exceed their own expectations. I believe everyone has more to learn and achieve, including me. Many students have taught me something, lets grow together. I use many books to start students and usually spend most of the lesson in the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet (Cornet). I like students to study classic trumpet solo's literature. Trumpet students will learn to slurring, double and triple tonging technics, as well as transposing and how to write music. Read More

From there, her music career quickly blossomed and just two years later at the age of nineteen, she found herself in the beautiful city of Boston, studying classical flute performance at the renowned Berklee College of Music. In pursuit of further enrichment, Anna Kate transferred to the Boston Conservatory two years later. The mentors she’s practiced under throughout her years are highly-regarded and sought after in the community, to name a few: Patricia Surman, Wendy Rolfe, Katherine Kemler, Mihi Kim of France, Heather Yarmel, and Ann Bobo of the Boston Pops. The emphasis for these lessons is on pouring your soul into some practical excercises that are applicable to the stage, whether it’s a jazz ensemble, concert band, funk band, wedding group, solo project. What the student puts in, they will receive in return. The exercises will focus largely on tone production (your personality or voice on the horn) and transcription of ideas (to develop real musical vocabulary). With these tools, the sax becomes a vehicle for self expression and an outlet for the audience, things so vital in these current times of turmoil and self doubt. Read More

I started teaching guitar lessons in my hometown when I was 16 years old and was teaching at local music stores when I was 18. After graduating from Musicians Institute, I taught in-home private lessons in Los Angeles. I consistently had a full teaching schedule and gained a lot of experience through teaching students of all ages and skill levels. One of my main goals is to make sure my students are having fun while learning as I believe this is key to maintaining an interest in music and motivation to practice. Read More

My main focus with string instruments is sound development - how to use the bow properly and get a beautiful sound from the instrument first and foremost. I typically use Sound Innovations for Strings for beginning students, and start supplementing with different repertoire as we get further into lessons. For beginning students, we start with a proper hold, left hand set up, and only after that do we get to using the bow so we can focus on getting the best sound possible out of the instrument. I like to have my students progress to a point where they feel comfortable picking a song of their choice, transcribing it as accurately as possible, and playing it. For advanced students: there is no set structure for advanced students, as their requests and sets of strengths and weaknesses are so individually specific that I have to create a specific lesson plan for each student. However, one theme that I love to introduce advanced musicians to in terms of music theory are the psycho-acoustics and emotional manipulation of specific chord progressions, modes, cadences, and modal interchange.
