For beginners, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument. Brass instruments are notoriously demanding, so making sure we have a solid grasp on the fundamentals is paramount. I like to start with the Essential Elements for Band and the Elementary Method for Cornet and Trumpet books. Once we have the fundamentals, I like to start introducing some solo pieces, jazz, and pop tunes that will allow the student to get a feel for all the music they can play on this instrument! My approach is different for each student. A curriculum will be designed around the student's needs, skill level, music reading ability, musical interests, and age level. I am capable of teaching a student as much as they are willing to learn. We will not only learn a piece of music, but will dive into what makes the piece interesting to the student and the theory of music.
