From there I walk through how to learn the first song. For intermediate students, among many lesson objectives, I introduce scales, a focus on right hand technique, some composition, and an introduction to music theory. For advanced students, I introduce more complex chords (like barre chords, extended chords, common jazz chords), complex melodic technique, higher-level music theory, and composition. Aside from my basic lesson structure, I’d like the student to direct lessons too, whether it’s picking a particular song they would like to learn, playing a particular style, or come with any questions whatsoever. I taught a little in Idaho but really started teaching in earnest when I moved to Colorado. I've taught individuals from the young beginner to the older person looking to relearn a lost art. I have also adjudicated and taught masterclasses. I've found a passion for working with others that I didn't know that I had. I try to offer my students the tools that I wish I had had when I was just starting out, as well as the tools that will eventually render me obsolete. Read More

I tailor lessons to students' interests, but don't neglect the fundamental building blocks of playing. I encourage creativity and experimentation, touching on a variety of musical elements in each lesson. Read More

I began teaching guitar part time in late high school to just a few students. During college, I expanded my student base to include up to 30 students per week. I also have plenty of experience teaching group lessons of up to 25 children in both lesson and rehearsal formats. I prefer to teach my students using a jazz sensibilty applied all types of music. This brings about a well-rounded and open-minded perspective on both writing and performing in all genres. Read More

I take a very individual approach to my teaching plans- each student has their own attention spans, goals, interests and abilities! When I was first learning piano, I was frustrated by the music choices my teacher was picking for me and this usually made me not in the mood to practice. Over the years I've collected, written and purchased various pieces and exercises for both piano and percussion that allow me to create custom lessons for my students. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I’m a passionate teacher who is motivated to help my students achieve their own personal goals. If anything, I hope to share and pass on my love of music to my students. I graduated from CCM in 2013 and McGill in 2019 with degrees in cello performance from both schools. Last year, I moved to Colorado to play with the Altius Quartet and am excited to start growing my private studio! Read More

Having patience is key to being a good teacher. I realize many students will learn at different paces so it's important to work with kids on an individual level to make sure they're learning most effectively. Positive reinforcement through encouragement and setting attainable goals is another way of ensuring my students are making progress. I want to relate to students on a personal level as well and to link what their passionate about with the music that I teach them. Read More
