Overview:
I have been a vocalist and a professional musician all of my life. I began taking professional music lessons at four years old, including voice, guitar, piano, songwriting, musical theater/performance art of all kinds, and stage development. Among performing, touring, recording and writing, one of my true passions is teaching music to others. I started my teaching career when I was 19 years old, and became certified by the incredible Dr. Scott Martin at the Academy Of The Arts in Denver. Shortly after, I became a finalist on Season 9 of American Idol. As a contestant, I worked with some of the finest industry professionals and honed my craft.    Since then, I have been successful with many different projects, including my solo act “Swordsmith”; which will be releasing an LP next summer of 2015, and Denver indie-folk rock band “Varlet.” I have released multiple professionally produced full length records, been a guest artist on other friends’ projects, and have done several highly promoted U.S. tours, some alongside national/international acts. I have performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and my original music with Varlet has appeared in an ad campaign for Born/Born Crown Shoes. I have a song featured in the European soundtrack of award-winning independent film The Silent Thief. My latest release with Varlet, American Hymns, continues to receive national airplay on college radio and has received excellent reviews.
EXPERIENCE
I just recently moved back to Colorado from NYC. Up until the day before I moved, I was working as a private music teacher for over 50 different students weekly, in-studio and in-home lessons, ages varying from as young as 2 to adult. Since I've returned, many of those students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime. The pandemic challenged my regular in-home lesson routine, so all of my instruction takes place over FaceTime/Zoom now. My primary student base is ages 4-16. I also have several adult students where I teach advanced vocal performance. I have taught two different hour long group vocal classes twice a week, one for ages 3-6, and the other for 7-10 year olds. On average, I teach around 30 lessons a week, mostly 30/45 minute sessions, and several hour long sessions in addition to my group classes.   I specialize in advanced vocal instruction and talent development. I can also teach piano, guitar, songwriting, ukulele, bass, theory, and basic acting instruction, audition skills, and college audition prep.
METHODS USED
For my beginning students who are children, I like to start with Alfred's Music books based on the instrument they choose. They are specific, yet easy for kids to follow along with, and encourage practicing by making each song fun. For adults, we journey into what the student is interested in or inspired by, and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep our lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For voice, I assess the student's natural gifts and ear and capitalize from there. Starting with breath control, posture, and pitch control, then advancing to mouth placements, diction, and emotion.  I encourage and guide each student to work towards having at least three rotating songs that they have memorized to always be prepared for recitals, talent shows, performances for family, or auditions.
LESSON STYLE
I can take on any student of any experience level, from beginner to advanced, young and wise. I love working with kids, and I am great with helping anyone overcome stage fright and develop confidence. One of the qualities I admire of those who have taught me is their approachability and acceptance. I am supportive and encouraging, and I love being able to watch my students grow into powerful artists! I am open to anything and everything that you want to work on. I truly support my students in finding their own unique artistry, and I help them find where their natural gifts lie.  "Practice like you perform" is a mantra I live by passed on to me by my mentor, Dr. Scott Martin. I believe that with the right training and support from your teacher and family, practicing becomes effortless and excites you to continue to greatness!

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!
