I like to combine Technique and Theory with hands on application into songs. I start by doing an analysis of the level of theory and the proficiency of playing of the student. Then, I create a path of Theory = Practical learning to do. In theory, we analyze how music works before we touch the instrument. Then, we go on to learn technique on the instrument and learn song adapted to the students taste of music In this part, we also apply our theory knowledge onto what we play. Read More

I began studying the violin at age seven, and shortly thereafter began composing music and studying music theory. I then studied at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I studied composition with Claude Baker and Sven-David Sandstrm, and violin with Federico Agostini. My music ranges from classical, Latin-influenced, to electronic. After graduating, I taught music inSouth America for over a year.Living in Colombia, I served as a Teaching Artist for La Fundacin Nacional Batuta, the National Baton Foundation. Read More

I'm a Jazz/Classical pianist, composer, and educator. I graduated from Concordia University and started my career as a Jazz pianist in Montreal QC. Soon after, I took a next big step of pursuing MM (master's in music) in Jazz Piano in NY. I had wonderful two years in SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music studying with renowned Jazz legends, and it led me to an opportunity to go for second MM in Classical Composition that gave me so much wider and deeper musical spectrum. My start as a full-time multimedia teacher was with a company called Rivoli Music. I had taught 25-30 Japanese women... It got tight in places (language) but it was mostly pleasure having the students' Photoshop, Flash, then make FLV video with original soundtracks. I had enough experience after 8+ years of working and teaching to become a full-time teaching musician again... I loved showing my original work to the public (C.E.I.G.), and the public to the classroom to studies on how it was constructed. Read More

For all students, regardless of age or skill level, I like to gauge their musical interests (i.e., what music they listen to, what inspired them to pick up the guitar, etc.), and then work from there. For someone who has never picked up an instrument before, I generally work out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book 1. Once we're past that, I'll start showing them some basic songs, as well as seeing what kinds of songs they would be interested in learning. Read More

I began teaching 2 years ago during my undergrad years and fell in love with sharing the joy of music and singing. As a young kid, taking lessons myself, I constantly was seeking to learn different types of music and always felt like I could never find the right teacher who could help me expand my musical knowledge in the ways I wanted. Because I have a background in instrumental music, I truly believe in the importance of a foundation in theory, ear training skills, and music reading. Read More

As a soloist, I was a prizewinner of the Nova Vista Young Artist Concerto Competition and winner and soloist with the KAMSA Youth Orchestra and Texas Christian University Symphony Orchestra. I have appeared in recitals throughout Berlin, Germany and in master classes with Dorothy DeLay, Donald Weilerstein, Brian Lewis, Ruggiero Ricci, and the Tokyo String Quartet. I have also performed regularly on baroque violin and participated in a master class with Cynthia Roberts. Read More

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
It can be very different between different practice sessions. They are more separated than connected. If my schedule leaves me with a lot of free hours, I would practice in a concentrating length. In the situation if I don't have a focused period, I usually break down the hours with a greater frequency, and a shorter duration. This gives me a chance to experience the repertoires that I've been familiarized from outweighing a predictable approach. For the pieces that are not new, I start off the practice from a particular spot, or the spot that I'm troubled with and then move to the other sections. For the pieces that are new, I tend to practice in sequence. But there are still a lot of times that I just pick a random spot to practice, then move to a different places without disposition of bar numbers.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have music degrees throughout entire academic studies in piano performances. I like to play in concerts, and enjoy preparing the pieces that are going to be performed in the upcoming recitals. Even if I'm majoring in performance, but I'm having an experienced study on music theory and education. The combinative engagement between performance and theoretical focus help me gain a better integrity. Interactions with other musical fellows during rehearsal sessions are fun. Degree of performance is demanding but is worth to pursue.
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I like to experience all kinds of new music that are written after 20th century. Recently, what addresses my interest at most is the pieces that are composing for modern ensembles contain various instruments by applying extended techniques. I'll be exited to perform Music for a Summer Evening by George Crumb, la Monde des ronds et des carres (2015) by Misato Mochizuki, One of Us, One of Them (2005) by Ted Hearne, and Traces that Time Leaves on Built Form by Timothy Mccormack.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
To be a computer programmer. Coding is a indelible skill that put people working in industrial jobs. The process of writing code is an interesting incentive, although a lot times people find that are very frustrated. I have never experienced a concentrating study for coding, but those well-known networking sites give me a fair amounts of information to stay in registration as an amateur coder. I like coding, that's fun.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I like to play pieces that are composed during 18th century through 19th century. Stylistically, the
