Overview:
One of my greatest joys is sharing my passion for music with others. Music has been a constant source of inspiration in my life, and I love introducing it to my students in a way that sparks the same excitement. I’ve been playing piano for as long as I can remember, becoming more serious with each passing year. In 2009, I joined a choir and a band through American Music Abroad, embarking on a three-week European tour. Long rehearsals, endless plane rides, and countless performances deepened my love for music and solidified my passion for performing.
For over 15 years, I’ve been teaching kids in various capacities, and for the past five years, I’ve run my own K–12 math tutoring company, working closely with students to help them grow academically and personally. Whether in music or academics, my goal is always the same: to guide, inspire, and celebrate my students as they reach new milestones. I’m excited to play a part in that journey for every aspiring musician I teach.
EXPERIENCE
I was offered my first piano teaching job 15 years ago, and have continued to teach ever since. I've taught children as young as 4 years old and first-time adults as old as 60. The most rewarding experiences I've had as a teacher include watching shy, young students consistently evolve into mature young adults who leap at the chance to perform in recitals or take on new challenges in their musical careers. I always encourage a sound sense of self-discipline when I teach lessons. I've found that practicing the piano on a regular basis leads to a healthier work ethic that affects many other parts of a students' lifestyle. Lessons are also meant to be fun and inspiring, so the students have a deeper appreciation for music.
METHODS USED
When I begin working with a new piano student, my first priority is getting to know them as a learner and as a person. Every student comes to music with a unique mix of goals, learning styles, and personal interests, so I make it a point to understand what motivates them and what kind of music truly excites them. Some students dream of playing classical masterpieces, while others want to explore pop, jazz, film scores, or even video game music. By learning about their preferences early on, I can design lessons that are both inspiring and effective.
LESSON STYLE
My students thrive on goal setting. From the very first lesson, we work together to set clear, meaningful objectives that guide our learning journey. We revisit these goals regularly, tracking progress and adjusting as needed to keep students motivated and on track. I tailor my approach to each individual, recognizing that every student learns differently. Accomplishments, whether big breakthroughs or small wins, are celebrated, as each is a step toward the overall goal and a reason to feel proud.
