During my college years, I taught local middle school and high school students in between classes and reherasals.  Most of my students stayed with me for a 1-2 years, often leaving because of graduation and college plans. Admittedly limited, my teaching experience started when I was in High School when I became the marching Band's trumpet section leader. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with otherswatching people grow in their musicianship is an incredible reward for me and I'd love to experience it more in my life! Trumpeter Andrew R. enjoys a varied career as performer and educator. A native of San Diego, CA, he now calls Los Angeles his home. Performing in a variety of musical styles, he collaborates with a diverse collection of ensembles. For years 1 & 2, we will go through the "red" and "blue" books (Standard of Excellence) together, in order to formulate the right habits with embouchure, breathing, posture, and learning to read and play the correct notes. Once some headway has been made, we can begin "Arban's" for technical studies, Bai Lin's "Lip Flexibilities" for advance warm up and excersies, and Rochut's "Melodious Etudes" for solo material. The closer detail as to which type of brass pedagogy I employ is as follows. Correcting posture nearly goes here without saying, as does the simple good habits one needs to take care of their horn. Long tones are an immediate must to introduce, whether looking upon sheet music or not. Pertaining to beginners' method books, I am an equal proponent for both the Hal Leonard and Rubank's series.
