As a Jazz Studies major at Cal State Northridge (CSUN), I placed in the college's Jazz "A" Band, which won 1st Place in its division at the Next Generation Monterery Jazz Festival. During my time at CSUN, I also began to write and record music for jazz big band. After finishing my undergraduate studies, I began playing my own songs and compositions at live music venues and was often hired to play on live television series. Read More

I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups! I believe it is important to keep the lesson interesting to the student by incorporating music for technique but also songs that the student enjoys playing. Read More

I work primarily with young students, we start with Book 1 of Accent on Achievement. Trombone fundamentals take a lot of time given that students must build actual muscle strength in addition to learning to read music and understanding the instrument. After a student has hit a sufficient range, we move onto the Rochut etude books. Read More

I bring a wealth of teaching experience to my students, including teaching students of different ages at many different levels. I have taught private students at the beginning, intermediate, and college level as well as coached brass students at several middle schools and high schools throughout southern California, and I currently maintain a private teaching studio. In addition to private one-on-one lessons, I am also experienced in conducting group lessons and sectionals where students can explore the joy of playing with other students at their level. Read More

One of the pillars of learning that I hold to from my own experience as a private lesson student is the pursuit of excellence. I have been teaching individual lessons consistently for the last 8 years, and in that time I have learned that no two students are alike. I understand that each student requires my individual attention and focus and through that focus I make it a priority to learn how my student learns in order to provide the best, most fun experience they can have learning music and developing their skills. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More
