Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Ukulele Euphonium Tuba
16 years of teaching experience, from elementary-university level Beginning to advanced students, classical or jazz style. Online (Zoom/Google Meet/Skype) or in person. I can teach trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba. Beginning students, middle/high school, audition prep for college and I can tutor with music theory/band assignments. Each student gets a unique approach depending on their goals and experience level. Online lessons I will teach with a camera and also using a shared screen showing sheet music that will allow students to see markings on the music in real time. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone French Horn
I always vary my teaching methods to accomodate each of my student's needs. However, my lesson format stays fundamentally the same. I always begin with some mouthpiece buzzing, which incorporates ear-training, then move to rhythm exercises, scales and technical studies, method book, and any other music the student is working on at the time. Most beginning students will start out with Book 1 of a standard method book; I recommend the Standard of Excellence series. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Recorder Euphonium Tuba
In my methods of teaching I typically like to focus on what the students want to get better at while also incorporating fundamentals and good habits. I feel that this gives the student the ability to choose what they want to do as well as my chance to show them the right way to learn it and create good habits while playing the instruments. Usually older students I try to focus more on fundamentals and I play through method books like Rochuts or for more advanced students maybe the Bitsch book. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
I always start with a warm up, followed by scale studies. From there we move to etudes, and solos or concerti, and end with excerpts from books like the Mueller technical study or Arban book. For more advanced students and jazz players, I like to start with a warm up, scale study, learn tunes and the blues, big band charts, and end with listening and transcriptions. Overall, the most important thing a student can develop is a full tone and personal sound. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Bass Guitar Euphonium
My lessons are taylored to each student individually to address their needs and desired results, and depending on their ability. I like to focus on technique and then work on the specific needs of each student to achieve their goals. I like to find out what my students want to play, then figure out how to get them to be able to. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba
Absolutely the most important thing that happens for me in a private lesson is to see a development in a student's personal relationship with music. Through having students record personal goals at each lesson I have seen how fast students can learn to meet and in many cases exceed these goals. I know from experience how good it feels to work hard at a musical goal that I accomplish and it is not only my joy as a teacher but an important focus of mine to celebrate those successes with my students. Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Music
I bring a wealth of teaching experience to my students, including teaching students of different ages at many different levels. I have taught private students at the beginning, intermediate, and college level as well as coached brass students at several middle schools and high schools throughout southern California, and I currently maintain a private teaching studio. In addition to private one-on-one lessons, I am also experienced in conducting group lessons and sectionals where students can explore the joy of playing with other students at their level. Read More
