I've played trombone for eleven years and have stuck with it for love of the instrument. I attended the LA County High School for the Art for three years, through which time I became serious about learning music. I went on to earn the Bob Cole Conservatory Scholarship at CalState Long Beach. My favorite courses were Brass Chamber Music and my various music history courses. I've been teaching in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years, teaching students from ages 4 - 92 (yes, really! 92!). For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. My style of teaching seems to be very relaxed. I never force anything and I always want to give inspiration and motivation to the students. I get more pleasure and comfort knowing that this is something they want to do for themselves and not something I or their parents are forcing them to do. I think this also brings out the best playing and create motivation for the student.
