Overview:

I am a freelance trumpet player with over 20 years of professional experience globally with roots in Northern and Southern California. I earned a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Music degree from UCLA, having studied with William Bing, Jens Lindemann, Uan Rasey, and Howie Shear. I have toured nationally and internationally with the Glenn Miller Orchestra (solo chair, split lead), A Chorus Line (lead trumpet), Legally Blonde (lead trumpet), Dreamgirls, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, 42nd Street, Metalachi, and The Purple Ones Prince tribute band. Forrest gained traction throughout the Bay Area as a lead player and soloist for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Tito Puente Jr., Momotombo, Luis Enrique, Tito Puente, Jr., Mendocino Music Festival Big Band, and Transcendence Theater Company. Additional recording and live performance credits include The Queen Latifah Show with Karmin, Center Stage Opera, Southern California Brass Consortium, Louie Cruz Beltran, Latin Sol, Son Mayor, Jungle Fire, Echo Park Project, For The Record: Scorses, 3D Theatricals, Musical Theatre West, Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley, Steve Huffsteter Big Band, Dirk Fischer Nonet, Bruce Lofgren Big Band, Skip Spiro Little Big Band, Urban Renewal Project, Jens Lindemann, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and Philip Lassiter.

EXPERIENCE

I have taught private lessons to all ages since High School and this is where I feel like I thrive as an educator. I have coached for Harmony Project, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and many others, as well as Drum and Bugle Corps and Marching bands throughout California. I have been the band director and general music educator for several elementary schools in the Bay Area and Los Angeles County Throughout the pandemic, I worked as Program Director for the Sacramento Mandarins, a nonprofit music academy with the mission of transforming the lives of youth through performing arts. Over the course of one year, he helped the organization grow from 100 students to now over 1200 students in more than 42 elementary schools throughout his hometown. There, he also enjoyed furthering his leadership skills by completing Third Plateau’s leadership development program.

METHODS USED

For beginners I like to start with Essential Elements 2000, although this book isn't specifically written with trumpet in mind, I do I want to get students making music as soon as possible and EE 2000 is a great start. As students advance I use some of the standard trumpet method books such as - Clarke Technical Studies, Arbans Complete Method for Trumpet, I also write out exercises that can't be found in books but feel will help the student progress. For the advanced and serious students I like to get into Etude books such as Brandt and Charlier. It is important to explore all genres of trumpet - jazz, funk, theater, show tunes and anything with trumpet is fair game.

LESSON STYLE

I love sharing my knowledge of trumpet and music with students as well as inspiring creativity and the desire to learn. I believe it is mostly up to the student to teach themselves, I simply show them how to do this in the most efficient way. There are countless method books to choose from and most of them leave out the most important details of how to actually practice and get results. I cater every lesson to the students current needs and ambitions. Whether it be moving up a chair in band, making honor band, playing lead trumpet, orchestral expcerpts or jazz I can help.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
