I work primarily with young students, we start with Book 1 of Accent on Achievement. Trombone fundamentals take a lot of time given that students must build actual muscle strength in addition to learning to read music and understanding the instrument. After a student has hit a sufficient range, we move onto the Rochut etude books. Read More

For beginners I like to start with Essential Elements 2000, although this book isn't specifically written with trumpet in mind, I do I want to get students making music as soon as possible and EE 2000 is a great start. As students advance I use some of the standard trumpet method books such as - Clarke Technical Studies, Arbans Complete Method for Trumpet, I also write out exercises that can't be found in books but feel will help the student progress. I focus on the journey over the destination when it comes to learning music. I want to make sure you love what you do in our lesson and I will also focus on the business and career side of it for more advanced musicians. I am understanding and more often than not I believe in looking at the positive aspect of things rather than the negative. I am realistic, but that does not ever mean pursuing music is unrealistic. I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with. I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists. For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques. I also really enjoy exposing students to styles, genres or artists that they might not be familiar with along with the history behind the music they're learning! Read More

For stringed instruments, I uses the Suzuki method for teaching the basic repertory of the instruments. This method is an ear training method in which the student plays by ear. It starts out very simple so students of all ages can learn and progress very quickly. For learning to read music I use one of the method books like "A Tune a day" or Strictly Strings which teach the fundamentals of read music and music theory. Read More

I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups! I believe it is important to keep the lesson interesting to the student by incorporating music for technique but also songs that the student enjoys playing. Read More
