I began teaching at the Xavier University Junior School of Music (Louisiana) at the age of 18. My teaching experience now spans 30 years. While most of my teaching, over the years, has been primarily private, I also have several years of classroom teaching experience. I enjoy teaching music because I believe that it is one of the most endearing methods of sharing information. One of my motto's is that I am an educator first, music is simply the vehicle by which I choose to educate. Read More

My approach to singing comes from the Bel Canto school of singing. Bel Canto is Italian for beautiful singing and while I was trained this way, I believe in meeting students at their vocal level and build from there. I dont subscribe to the one size fits all method because we all perceive our voices very differently. Throughout my university years, I had some teachers who got frustrated when they instructed me to sing a certain way that I could not understand and I never want my students to be confused or feel misunderstood during our lessons. I believe that the best results will always come when students truly love what they are doing. Therefore, it is important to me to make sure that the class is enjoyable. I encourage students to set goals for themselves on what they need to accomplish at each lesson. Lastly, praise and acknowledgement must be given as much as possible. Sometimes, the error's you are making during a performance isn't about technique, but about self confidence. Read More

While studying to complete my BA through Cal Poly Pomona, I have had the privilege of touring with Cal Poly Pomona's University Concert Choir for at least three years. I have been heavily involved with this choir for a total of 5 years, and I was appointed as Section Leader for the Sopranos for one term, which meant hard work and dedication almost paid off back then. This was the period of my gigging days because some of these tours were paid tours where all of singers were paid to perform around SoCal. Read More

Being a person and friend rather than a "teacher" helps establish a nice atmosphere during the lesson, although it is important to be able to show authority as needed. First and foremost the student needs to have fun at class, otherwise he/she won't work on his/her own at home. I believe it is important to play a lot in the lesson, playing along with the student, listening to tunes, or just jamming together, all of these examples help spark creativity, which is a very important part of every musician. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
