My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More

I have solid and extensive experience in teaching instrument technique, improvisation, and sight reading. I've been teaching since 2012, ranging from beginners all the way to highly advanced levels, with focus either on jazz or classical music. I focus on the journey over the destination when it comes to learning music. I want to make sure you love what you do in our lesson and I will also focus on the business and career side of it for more advanced musicians. I am understanding and more often than not I believe in looking at the positive aspect of things rather than the negative. I am realistic, but that does not ever mean pursuing music is unrealistic. In my methods of teaching I typically like to focus on what the students want to get better at while also incorporating fundamentals and good habits. I feel that this gives the student the ability to choose what they want to do as well as my chance to show them the right way to learn it and create good habits while playing the instruments. Usually older students I try to focus more on fundamentals and I play through method books like Rochuts or for more advanced students maybe the Bitsch book. Read More
