With my teaching style, I try to maintain open lines of communication as much as possible. Since graduating, I have had 2 long-term substitute positions and I am currently working as a music teacher at a primary school in Lancaster County. I have taught beginning to intermediate piano, beginning ukulele, and advanced flute, clarinet, and saxophone. The first lesson is often very relaxed and focused on the student's learning style. I will then start with one of the many beginner books that I feel will suit the student. Often that depends on the age, experience, and knowledge. I want the music to push the boundaries, but not too difficult. My students will focus on slow, steady, and consistent practice schedules. Music is supposed to be fun. I love to incorporate actually playing music as much as possible and keep exercises to a minimum. This keeps lessons fresh and gives them a sense of progression. I started leading choirs as a teenager and have grown from there. I've taught theory and composition internationally (See a final project video on my profile), and taught violin and viola here in the States. I like to emphasize the importance of theory and composition throughout all lessons, as well as learning by play - music is an art of expression first and foremost.
