I have used these books in my development and am very comfortable and confident with their ability to help studnets progress. I usually teach from Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method for preteens and young teens at a beginner level. These instruction books are structured from Book 1 to Book 6. As for older teens, young adults and adults, I usually teach from the acclaimed method book: Hal Leonard’s Music Guitar Method. These books are structured from Volume 1 through Volume 3. I like to tailor the lesson specifially with the students skill level, musical goals, and a combination of musical styles that the student enjoys as well as teaching through other literature that I pick out. Fundamentals of music notation sight reading are also incorperated into basic techniques in playing the instrument for beginners. My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. I was concentrating on classical students but also taught folk, pop, rock, and jazz styles.
