I try to relax the student first with body relaxation and breathing methods. We then do warm up vocal exercises to build the voice and then work on songs. I play the accompaniments on piano for them and they can record all of the lesson. I also do vocal coaching and incorporate acting methods. Piano students need to learn how to play basic songs first but then we can start to incorporate songs or other music they like into their lessons. Read More

I have been teaching privately since I was in high school and have never not taught ever since. I spent many years teaching at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. I have given masterclasses in universities around the globe. I love to teach music to students of ever level. The progress of a student at any level is incredibly satisfying for me. I make the lessons fun and productive at the same time - very important! Read More

I draw inspiration largely from my Rudolf Steiner-inspired pre-college education and my Carl Orff-inspired higher education. Waldorf/Steiner education "emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, striving to integrate holistically the intellectual, practical, and artistic development of pupils" while the Orff Approach "combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child's world of play." As I said, all of my students have individual experiences with music and learning! The most important thing to me is progress and passion, at any pace and in any style. A big part of my lessons is setting goals together and checking in on those goals every couple of weeks. Another important thing I try to keep at the center of our lessons is the idea that we only can get as much out of these lessons as we put in. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my student teaching placement in 2009, where I taught private voice lessons to high school-aged boys and girls. Since then, I have been consistently teaching voice and piano students in their homes. I really love working with young children, I enjoy their "joie de vivre", curiosity and imagination! I thank my lucky stars every day that my job never seems like work, because I am genuninely having a great time making music. Read More

Hello, One of my greatest passion is teaching and inspiring others to want to play music. I hold a Degree in Popular music studies from William Paterson University and a minor in music management. I have had the privelage to perform with a number of artists and musicians in the greater NJ/NY area. I have also played guitar on many professional recording sessions for Major Label associated artists. My main goal is to teach others and give the tools necessary to express themselves through the Guitar. Read More

I like to teach from an understanding that depth is more important than scope, meaning thoroughly practicing a single piece of music is more effective than skimming over many things at once. This allows more mindful practicing and mastery. It also allows me to find my students' most effective learning methods and cater to their specific learning needs. I like to make goals for my student using this way of practicing. Read More

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
As I’ve been spending the past few years performing professionally and away from teaching, I haven’t had this pleasure yet.
I have felt incredibly privileged to continue to be asked by my colleagues to help them with their own technique and watching them apply my adjustments in their performances has been an honor.
Now that I am back full time in nyc, I look forward to rebuilding my studio and stretching my students to their full capability.
I’m completely confident that my students can find ways to prepare themselves for those situations as they come.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
While I always was known as the best singer in the school or playing the lead in the musical or receiving the scholarships, few things have made me feel as accomplished as singing in front of people in general.
An audience is the missing piece we need as performers.
I especially love singing for relatives. Especially my grandfather. I love being able to bring joyful tears to his eyes.
He was the first call I made when I secured my first professional job.
My friend is on the board for the Trevor Project and together we brought my one woman show together and raised over 10k dollars for the cause. At a meeting in LA, a prominent producer asked who I was and why I had raised much more money than Rob Thomas had at his event.
That moment was pretty cool.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
The joke is that I came into the world singing. I was singing before I could talk, writing operas from the crib.
My father was a percussionist by hobby and a music minor in college. He recalls me sitting on my grandma’s lap at age 2 and singing along to her playing the piano. Have you ever been at a birthday party and realize that whomever started singing first, chose a really high key to sing Happy Birthday, but you don’t realize till the second to last line? My father recalls my ear being so good at 2, I had no problem keeping in tune when my grandma picked a rather high key to sing happy birthday. He said he knew then and there that I would be a singer.
I took piano and violin and played in the youth symphony, attended violin music camps, choir camps; the whole enchilada. I always had an ear for music, but singing allowed me to access imagination as a child that I still get to use today when I have the honor of getting to play make believe for a living
