I have been teaching since 2007, and have worked with nearly all levels -- from the ultra beginners who have never held a flute to the advanced flutist who has gone on to place in competitions or won collegiate scholarships. I've had 6-year-old students and 60-year-old students. In addition, I also have given workshops on topics such as stage presence, vibrato, and intonation, and have conducted three different flute choirs. I'm a big believer in setting small but achievable goals. I also believe that achieving technical mastery of an instrument is a simple process of building habits. Some students may want to be pushed hard and challenged at every turn. Other students may not respond so well to such an approach so a different pace and style is required. First its the posture method and focus control which basically is meditation applied in the musical field and the right synchronization with the tongue and breathe. the next method(s) is focusing on the students embouchure. then i like the yamaha book for starters and a couple other good books. I also like to spend some lessons just working on sound and free lancing as well as other lessons dedicated to sight reading, musical phrasing, articulation, styles of music...ect...I also have days where we have music appreciation by taking them on trips. If a student wants to work on one specific style, be it classical, jazz, or pop oriented music, I will show them the music, materials, and methods required for mastery in that subject. Lou has worked as a jazz and pop pianist/keyboard player and teacher for over 30 years. In addition, he was a music teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. He studied with numerous jazz and classical teachers, including Jimmy Giuffre, Roland Hanna, and Frank Wigglesworth. .I am passionate about music and the transforming power it has in people's lives. I have Suzuki teacher training in Flute Book one from East Tennesse University in 1996. I have my Masters in Education from Lehigh University. Currently I am the Music Specialist for Lehigh University's Child Care Center, and I direct the Youth Choir at St. Theresa Parish in Hellertown. I perform with the Moravian College Collegium Musicum and sing with the Allentown Diocesan Choir.  I am currently Licensed to Teach MusikGarten and plan to hold a class this Fall for 3-5 year olds.
