Instruments: Double Bass
Decades of symphonic and chamber music experience and a love of the noble double bass! Watching a student's progress over time is one of my greatest rewards. My students are encouraged to communicate openly - their interests, goals, desires, and even their dislikes. Prior students have gone on to play professionally or remain involved in some form of music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard
My approach to teaching is, basically, that playing piano should be enjoyable and fun so I tailor the lessons to the type of music in which the student has interest. I do, however, have a basic structure that includes reading music, finger dexterity and songs at the student's playing level. If there is an interest in contemporary music I have an "easy to learn" approach to chords and accompaniments. I also give lessons in music composition. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching style is very student-oriented. So it varies from lesson to lesson and student to student. The goal is for my students to become more confident singers and musicians. In order for that to happen lessons need to be focused on them. I could spout teaching philosophies and strategies all day but in reality every student is different. Everyone learns differently and I make sure my teaching style stays flexible to accommodate that. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Ever since I can remember, I've been singing and learning everything I can about music. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. While at Haverford, I toured colleges on the East Coast with my male-voiced a cappella group, and I also toured both Mexico and Germany with the Chamber singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. Instruments: Drums
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
The most rewarding part of teaching is seeing my students excel and develop their own passions for music. Each one of my students is different, and so each lesson I teach is specific to that student. Acknowledging accomplishments and setting weekly goals for my students allows them to meet those challenges and see the success that comes from all their hard work! It's really a wonderful thing to see. Read More
Instruments: Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion Latin Percussion Music
I tailor my methods to suit my students' unique musical needs and goals and adjust them overtime as the students' abilities grow. For beginners, we will work to develop a strong foundation in the basics of music such as instrument layouts, basic stick and mallet control, sheet music and rhythm reading, and playing in time. For more advanced students, we will focus on a variety of topics such as touch, tone color, interpretation, aural skills, music theory, score study, and musicianship. Read More
