If a student is preparing for a PMEA Choir audition, I will help them prepare the repertoire as well as provide a mock audition. If they sing in a church choir, we will work on sight singing hymns as well as working on any difficult literature. If they simply want to learn more about music theory, I will focus on that. For absolute beginners I make sure that they know the guitar strings and make sure they get to know the fretboard by learning the pentatonic scales and basic chord shapes. First we will learn what an octave is and where they are on the fretboard. After we learn octaves we learn the scales and the notes on the high and low E string.
