The students I teach at the college are mostly Theater Arts majors, but all of them enjoy learning a basis in classical technique. For all of my students, I typically start with teaching (for more advanced students at least reviewing) the fundamentals of breathing for singing. From there I move on to phonation: how to produce a healthy sound, in coordination with and supported by the breath. For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method. For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. I then took a year to work in the industry at several regional musical theater and opera houses domestically and internationally.
