I am a multi-instrumental teaching, recording, performing, and touring musician from Southern California. Since I started playing flute in 6th grade, I knew that I wanted to be a music educator and began playing any instrument I could get my hands on. From school orchestras and jazz bands to private lessons, I became a versatile multi-instrumentalist teacher and professional performer on guitar, bass, piano, flute, and voice. My education continued at Citrus College and in the Los Angeles music scene where I honed my performance and teaching skills as a local musician, national and international touring performer, recording producer and artist, and teaching artist with private lessons and in during- and after-school programs. In contemporary Native Hawaiian culture, music making is a shared and collaborative space where people come together to create and learn from one another, regardless of how much prior experience you have. My relatives raised me with these understanding, and this is the type of environment that I like emulate and integrate with my lessons and students. I've been playing piano for 45 years, and have taken private lessons a total of 15 years with three different teachers.  Music is my passion, and so is teaching, so it brings me a lot of joy to share this with my students.  Music has taken me down many avenues in my life, starting at a young age.  My family are all musicians, so it has been a constant in my life.  At one point I played for church, and as a teenager I played for a ballet class.  Like I mentioned before, I've done many weddings and funerals, and look for any opportunity to play piano. Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well.
