Diversity, high-energy, fast-paced, exploratory I believe teaching music doesn’t just teach music—it teaches us life skills that are applicable to any field and any situation. My teaching philosophy is a mix of many ideas, and I believe it is more successful the more places I "steal" ideas from. As a music teacher at the 21st Century Public Academy, and the 2nd, being my job in the Army as a member of the 44th Army Band. Read More

As a teacher, I am a student of teaching. Having studied under a number of very different teachers, I have learned that motivation to practice comes and goes, but passion is what builds a lasting foundation for musicianship. Because we can all be passionate about different aspects of the same subject, my teaching philosophy is that each student should be able to experience being passionate about music, whether their personality is ‘forte’ or ‘pianissimo.’ I am blessed to be a teacher that loves teaching, and I want to convey that to my students by the way that I teach. I definitely customize my lessons for each student, and don't compare one to the other. Some of them have been my students from early childhood to high school graduation. Read More

I want everyone to feel that they can learn music and that music can be fun to learn and grow in. So I strive to learn how a student learns and do my best to cater my teaching style and the materials I use to help them learn tothe way they learn. For example, if you are a repetitive learner than I will try to solidify the techniques by teaching those techniques over and over again until they areabsorbed. Read More

Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well. Once a student has reached proficiency in the Alfred's series then I like to move into classical or other music as that a student might be interested in. Read More
