My husband is in the Air Force so I have had the opportunity to teach students all over the country for over 15 years. I like using the Faber books so that the students learn their notes, theory, and all aspects of music. Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well. Examples would be Disney songs (Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast), Gospel and Religious (Jesus Loves Me, the Dreydl song), or superheroes (Spiderman). Ten to 14-year olds have used favorites from around the world -(everything from Greensleeves to Malaguena, In the Hall of the Mountain King and more superheroes like Batman and Iron Man), plus classics by Beethoven and Bach.
