 I have also taught general music from kindergarten up through 5th grade, and assisted bands at the university level.  My performance experience has taken me to many wonderful places--College bowl games and the NCAA Tournaments to international hotspots such as Bogota, Columbia and even as far away as China.  I have also been fortunate enough to perform with musical icons such as Doc Severinson, Mariachi Cobre, Byron Stripling, John Fedchock, Bobby Shew, Five by Design, Club Swing, the Harry James Orchestra, Andre Williams, and notable groups such as the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Phil Campo and the "Loose Change" Jazz band, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and many others. I'll test your ear and your sense of pitch with a few scales initially, and then move on to the study of singing styles, the key aspects or projection, dynamics, phrasing, and how to blend your influences into your own style, while offering some tips on breathing well and staying fit: a great singer, much like an athlete, must stay in training, and always have ears to hear more and learn more. I facilitated individual an group musical collaborations, and helped train people to do the same via workshops I facilitated at conferences. I have also led community singalongs, and taught individual students vocals and percussion over this time. I'm a big believer that everyone can sing and everyone can drum, and that music is a gift inherent to being human that we all can share and rejoice in. I encourage students to become comfortable with vocal and rhythmic musical expression, and teach tools and techniques and exercises that can help develop their skills and craft. Read More

For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's All-in-one Piano Course books. These books combine repertoire and theory, thereby cutting down on the number of books a new student needs to purchase. I use a variety of materials for voice students. I may ask that my voice students purchase books of repertoire that contain songs useful for building on their strengths and working on their weaknesses.
