Lessons are customized to the student's learning style and behavioral challenges. Any behavioral management is done with expectations set ahead of time, respectful reminders, and consistent consequences so that students get the most out of their time. Usually, I don't have too many issues with this as lessons are engaging through the use of technology, musical and pop-culture jokes and references, and opportunities to record audio and video for keeping a record of their progress and/or sharing with loved ones. Moving to Colorado Springs,I taught choral music and musical theatre for fifteen years, while offering private voice lessons.I directed numerous Broadway musicals in the public schools and enjoyed working with choreography.My choirs won top scores consistently in choral competitions. Whenever I meet with someone, I feel it's always best to get to know them and ask them "why music?". From there it sparks a conversation, and we start setting goals - which is super important! This is how we check in with ourselves along the way to make sure that the student is getting the most out of their lessons. I started working with youth as a counselor when I was 15 years old, which soon transitioned to helping students in my high school band integrate concepts and theory that seem at first like a foreign language. During college, as a student majoring in Chinese, I continued to teach guitar lessons during my stays in China.
