My teaching experience dates back to my middle school days, where I begun giving Spanish tutoring to my peers. I realized then that I had a fantastic joy for teaching, and knew that this was something I wanted to do with my life. I have been studying music since I was 5 years old, and at the age of 8 I began taking piano lessons. I did this for many years, and through it, I learned a tremendous amount about the principles of music as well as music theory. Read More

For beginning students and children, I'll start off with a combination of Mel Bay's Modern Guitar 1 and the book my teacher authored and self-published; The Guitar Workbook by Mike Jerant. Once they have a grasp of the open chords, we can start learning songs they're interested in. The same goes for adults, but we'll focus more on their goals from the beginning, and I'll tailor my lessons to include exercise and theory as it relates to my student's musical interests. Read More

Depending on the instrument that the student studies and how old they are is how approach teaching them. For example, my voice studentsalways start out learning the same techniques and warm-ups, but where we go from there is based on the age of the voice and how a person wants to learn. With Guitar and Piano I may use a book as a supplement to my teaching, but not as the focal point of my teaching because every learns differently andare ina different place in their journey. In lessons, I emphasize enjoying the process of learning. Learning an instrument does not happen over night. It takes years of practice and can be a joyful task if one enjoys the process. I send my students home with new goals each week to help guide their practice. Read More

Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More
