Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More

Depending upon the students goals I like to take the approach of introducing harmony at a point in which that student is proficient on the open chords of the guitar and scales in the first position. If the student chooses to learn classical guitar I would begin with basic exercises in reading and playing from Frederick M Noad's Solo Guitar Paying. If the student prefers to learn some other style or genre, then I would begin to help the student choose and study music that presents an appropriate challenge and an opportunity for the student to build his/her repertoire. I keep lessons tailored to each student's needs and skill level. Students come to private music tutors for many reasons and some do not include a "passion" for the art , itself. Some wish to develop an appreciation for music to which they listen, to gain a greater knowledge of music literature, or to acquire skills for a passtime they find relaxing and enlightening.
