Overview:
I am a vocal coach and singer. I am interested in bringing the joy of singing to all, regardless of level of experience. I believe that the joy felt while singing increases one’s self-confidence in all areas of life. I have personally lived the power of song and has witnessed the transformation provided through singing in others.
Once shy and quiet, with debilitating stage fright, I discovered my full voice and presence through the encouragement, understanding and skill of an incredible vocal instructor. It impacted my life so significantly, I decided I wanted to be able to bring this same type of experience to others who desired to sing, no matter what they planned to do with their singing, even if that meant just sounding better in the shower!
I focus on the individual, taking a customized approach to structuring lessons and coaching. Learning to sing properly without injury to the vocal box, allows for more enjoyment and a healthier voice. A healthier voice means a voice that can provide enormous joy throughout life for oneself and others
. I teach all styles of contemporary music; whether you sing Jazz, R&B, Rock, Pop, Broadway, Latin, Country, Gospel, Christian or Choir, I can instruct you. I have multiple years of teaching experience, am great with kids and can teach people with disabilities. I have a strong background in Music Theory and can assist individuals in their understanding. I coach for contest and recording preparation. I am bilingual and am able to instruct in Spanish.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my middle school days, where I begun giving Spanish tutoring to my peers. I realized then that I had a fantastic joy for teaching, and knew that this was something I wanted to do with my life.
I have been studying music since I was 5 years old, and at the age of 8 I began taking piano lessons. I did this for many years, and through it, I learned a tremendous amount about the principles of music as well as music theory. As a young teenager, I began taking voice lessons, and for the first time in my life I felt like I had found my instrument.
Throughout the years, I studied locally in Albuquerque, and later went on to study in New York City. I am a lifelong learner, and continue to perfect my craft of singing. I still visit New York to expand upon my vocal knowledge so that I am able to bring it back to my students.
METHODS USED
I believe that everyone has a unique learning style, and therefore, I customize each lesson to the individual. I do not have any particular "method", as I realize that what works for one person may not work for another. My methods include learning about the individual that I am teaching, and figuring out their learning style so that I am able to best tailor the lessons to be most effective for the individual. I do however, focus a lot on technique, as I have found good vocal technique to be the best way to master any genre of singing.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is completely client centered. I have a great passion for music, and I encourage my students to develop one as well! Each person will learn at their own pace, and I believe there is no right or wrong way of learning. I try to set realistic goals for my students, while always encouraging their creativity and uniqueness. By finding out what inspired my students, I am able to encourage them to continue learning, while always making each and every lesson fun! Nothing is more rewarding for me than to see my students fall in love with their voice.
