I've been playing piano for 45 years, and have taken private lessons a total of 15 years with three different teachers.  Music is my passion, and so is teaching, so it brings me a lot of joy to share this with my students.  Music has taken me down many avenues in my life, starting at a young age.  My family are all musicians, so it has been a constant in my life.  At one point I played for church, and as a teenager I played for a ballet class.  Like I mentioned before, I've done many weddings and funerals, and look for any opportunity to play piano. I am a versatile music teacher. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, I learned each band and orchestra instrument from the college instructor. For example, I learned to play the oboe from the oboe professor. We had to make our own reeds and use them to play our final exam. I also teach private lessons at a local studio, and I can be found in Old Town on Wednesday and sometimes Saturday nights jamming with the Jazz musicians of this wonderful city. I have taught choir and band from the 5th grade level all the way up through high school including subjects like music theory, jazz band, treble choir, marching band, and percussion ensemble. I have taught both privately and in a classroom setting. In addition to my school performances, I have also played with many bands since the age of seventeen. In general, I have been teaching since 2004 and it is the best job in the world! I absolutely love teaching and I always apply an enthusiastic mindset when I am teaching. I am very positive about teaching my students. I have the knowledge to teach about the theory, technique and flow of the music up through the intermediate level. I don't necessarily stay with the music until it is perfect, because as the student learns more they can always come back to it and play it better.
