My teaching experience started in the YMCA, my church worship band, with friends and friend's kids and evolved into private lessons with friends of friends via word of mouth. I have taught over 50 students in 10 years. All great students but I know 12 who have gone on to play music professionally in solo work, bands, movies and TV. While getting my Masters in Music, I assisted teaching Music Theory at the University of Iowa. From there,I taught classes of students at the West Bank School Of Music in Minneapolis. From the Midwest to the Southwest: I taught students at Los Angeles schools and privately there also. I learned what were the best musical works with which to engage students: - Beloved classics by Beethoven, Chopin and others - New Age music by Winston, Einaudi, and Yanni - Gospel works in the best arrangements for a student's level, and - Folk music and works from American History, such as Ragtime, classic Blues, and Jazz-Age music. I've been teaching piano for 13 years, and was trained to do so by a woman who is skilled in the art of pedagogy.  That was my first job, and later on I opened my own private studio.  At one point I've had up to 45 students, and I've enjoyed working with all of them.  I give recitals 4 times a year which helps me see progress in my students.  We've tried all kinds of performances, some with themes.  The last one I did was a recital with only 70's pop and rock songs.  They really enjoyed that one! I first started teaching guitar in high school after i got a few lessons from someone i looked up to in high school. From then on i have loved to teach music to all ages!.
