Overview:
I have been teaching music and percussion classes for over 10 years. I have taught in a variety of settings, ranging from elementary and high schools, to community centers and universities. I strive to create a fun and engaging learning environment for my students. My teaching style is rooted in the belief that students should be allowed to explore and experiment with the material they are learning, while also having a strong foundation of technique and theory. I believe that music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or skill level. I am continuing to expand my teaching skills and knowledge by taking workshops and courses in the latest developments in percussion and music education. I am also a member of the Percussive Arts Society, which keeps me updated on the latest trends and pedagogical practices in percussion and music education. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with my students, and to help them reach their full potential. I am passionate about music and education, and enjoy helping my students discover the joy that comes from mastering a new skill or instrument.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience has been incredibly rewarding and I have a deep love for teaching. I believe that knowledge is best imparted when it is shared with enthusiasm and passion, and I strive to make my lessons engaging and enjoyable for my students. I also recognize the importance of love and compassion in education, as it can help foster a positive learning environment. My teaching philosophy focuses on building students' independent study habits, so that they can become self-sufficient learners. Additionally, I prioritize academic growth while also emphasizing the importance of social-emotional learning. Moreover, learning music and drums offers a variety of benefits for both adults and children. These include improved coordination and dexterity, better cardiovascular health, improved memory, enhanced communication skills, reduced stress and anxiety levels, strengthened immunological response, and increased overall musical skill and ability
METHODS USED
My teaching philosophy is centered around personalized learning, where I strive to create an environment that encourages students to take ownership of their own learning. I use a variety of methods and practices to achieve this, such as creating custom lesson plans and materials tailored to the individual needs of my students[1][2]. I also emphasize frequent assessment data and one-on-one meetings with students to ensure they are on track[2]. When designing a course, I focus on defining goals for student learning rather than course content[3], and I strive to create an atmosphere that is both engaging and challenging for my students
LESSON STYLE
My approach to teaching is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to learn and grow, and it is my job as a teacher to help them reach their full potential. I strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and exploring new ideas. I believe in using a variety of teaching strategies, such as hands-on activities, group work, and individual instruction, to engage students in meaningful learning experiences. I also prioritize building relationships with my students so they know that I care about them. Above all, I am passionate about teaching and helping my students succeed. It is essential for a teacher to have a genuine love of teaching drums in order to be successful. This love of teaching will help drive the teacher to do their best and create a positive belief system where students can achieve anything. A great teacher should also like people, as teaching drums requires patience and understanding. Taking drum lessons can give students more opportunities to learn and play many styles of music, so having a mentor or teacher is important in life.

Javier has been teaching the drum set to my 7 year old son and myself for a number of months. He is really patient with kids and makes the lesson fun. Whenever it's time for our lesson, my son gets excited and looks forward to learn new things. I would say, any child who is interested in learning the drums, and practices what Javier instructs, that child will excel at the instrument. Javier knows how to teach at the child's level, as well as the adult level. He is a very good teacher!
