I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Some adults may want the satisfaction of simply playing Blues, or Fur Elise, or "Don't Stop Believin'" for their own enjoyment, and we work through the music easily as their practice time allows. Parents have the opportunity to see their children shine in recitals twice a year. During their lessons, the younger student and I work hard on note-reading, rhythm, and expression. I have taught both privately and in a classroom setting. In addition to my school performances, I have also played with many bands since the age of seventeen. In general, I have been teaching since 2004 and it is the best job in the world! I absolutely love teaching and I always apply an enthusiastic mindset when I am teaching. Piano can be a challenging instrument to learn and play, but I can teach you the tricks to make it easy.  For example, I can teach you to play and sing Beatles songs in two to three weeks.  I highly encourage my students to be creative, but I don't require it.  Creativity can be utilized even when you are playing Mozart or Bach.  I also teach improvisation,songwriting, and music production with Ableton Live. I try to keep the student as interested as possible,some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily.
