My instruction follows a broad method of teaching technique as well as musicality. I use method books such as Arbans, Clarke, Frink, Schlossberg, Concone, as well as several etude books like the Voxman series, Charlier, and others. Depending on the student's knowledge, I can teach theory concepts so the student can better understand the broad aspects of composition and improvisation. Teaching must be a two way street between the instructor and the student. There must be an understanding of the relationship and a willingness on both ends to take everything that they can out of the experience. I believe once this is done, a relationship can start to form between the two which will naturally help in the learning progress. My main goal is to keep lessons relevant for every student, and to provide an individual plan for each student. I choose a teaching method that is geared toward the student's learning style and personality - and especially age. There's nothing worse than using a method for children with a teen or adult! Right from the start I will supplement the method book with fun and engaging pieces. I have loved music my entire life, and I am a fun, knowledgeable and dedicated teacher of both the clarinet and the piano. After graduating with a clarinet performance degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2007, I have performed in many Boston and New Hampshire-area orchestras.  I am originally from the very small town of Barryville, NY, and my orchestral career has taken me to wonderful concert halls like Boston's Symphony Hall, Clevelan'ds Blossom Music Center, and New York's Carnegie Hall. For beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. I also use these books as a foundation for intermediate students. After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I will then add in supplementary material to go alongside the Piano Adventures books to give them a broader range of musical ability. Violin lessons are a combination of the Suzuki Method and Strings Builders. Read More
