I like to say that while I have a very methodical and systematic approach to teaching that I am also relaxed and laid back. I never want my students to fear their lesson. While I expect progress for the serious student I also fully recognize the limitations and conflicts of "life getting in the way". I am a big proponent of giving compliments whenever possible. I am not a cookie cutter teacher in that I can adapt my teaching style to meet the needs and goals of the student. Read More

My love of teaching is such that every time I am able to work with a student who genuinely wants to learn and has in themselves chosen to engage in the forms of music, I am transported to the position of student and learner as well. The fundamental forms in music are not something to be passed and discarded but forms that can be returned to at different times in your life and reveal more to the learner each time. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My teaching method and strategy is Applied Teaching, with a standard system of scales, etudes, and pieces from the cello literature. I am not a Suzuki instructor, but am always happy to refer a student to a Suzuki teacher. However, it is certainly possible to teach any student in either Suzuki or Applied Teaching, or both. Both are proven and effective teaching systems and techniques and are ideally highly complimentary. Read More

This usually leads to a mixture of classical, contemporary and jazz or musical theatre. I believe that a student needs to be enjoying their lessons and their practice and if they do then they will make the most progress. I make my lessons fun and encourage students to perform whenever they get the opportunity. Performing is a great motivator as is playing in a band or orchestra. Playing music brings something special to every students life and I’m always looking to help share the music with new students both young and old! Read More

I'm a fun, energetic teacher who enjoys helping students find their inner passion for music. In 2012, I graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Mathematics. While studying composition under Dr. Allen Anderson, I premiered and recorded pieces for brass trio, wind quintet, percussion ensemble, and soprano with piano accompaniment. In college, I also had the opportunity to tour with the UNC Men's Glee Club across the country as a soloist. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet
I understand how hard it is to learn a new instrument. Music is just like a language - because it is one! My approach to learning music is, like learning a new language, immersion in the basics and linking concepts from playing to listening. Depending on what the student wants to learn, I am willing to take great lengths in making sure the student is enjoying the experience as well as learning the importance of music. Read More
